following the release of the film SIDEWAYS
Sideways' success broadens
wine-tasting crowd
in which she surveys the Brooklyn
wine scene:
"For tasters green
on the scene, Amy Louise Pommier, manager of Prospect Wine
Shop, recommends keeping a journal to record favorites. It
takes years of tastings and record-keeping to enjoy wine at
its fullest potential, she said.
"'It's like playing
an instrument,' said Pommier, 'but the thing is, you can enjoy
it from the first sip.'
"Wine is intoxicating
in that the more people know, the more they want to learn
and the better questions they can ask, she said. Its timeless
appeal stems from the sensations it evokes, added Pommier.
"'Wine is one of those
areas of existence on our planet that has a magical ability,'
she said, 'to transmit through taste and smell a message about
the place from which it came and the person who made it.'"
