What an elegant Bordeaux -- and at quite a reasonable price for a Pauillac. The fruit is lush, silky and rather saturated -- red and black plum notes mingle with a bit of earthier tobacco. The effects of oak are discreet, making for excellent balance and drinkability in this relatively young wine. The Meffre family that own this chateau are originally from the Southern Rhone Valley -- in 1954 Gabriel Meffre, a nurseryman, went to Bordeaux to sell plants and ended up purchasing this and other excellent estates.
