Laurent Charvin has developed something of a cult following for his somewhat idiosyncratic winemaking methods -- he is one of the few in the appellation to use whole-cluster fermentation, and he also ages his wines purely in concrete tanks -- no wood. The result is distinctive purity and structure, along with complexity in the Grenache-predominant aromatics -- and considerable ageworthiness.
